Monthly HPC Café

12. April 2022 16:00 – 18:00

VC Zoom

Zeit: Dienstag, 12. April 2022, 16:00 Uhr s.t.
Schwerpunkt: Cluster-Jobs mit SLURM effektiv handhaben
Dauer: ca. 1-2 Stunden

The HPC Café (https://hpc.fau.de/systems-services/support/hpc-cafe/) complements the existing support channels and training offerings of the Erlangen National High Performance Computing Center (NHR@FAU). Every second Tuesday of the month, HPC users and the HPC group meet here to get to know each other, exchange and collect ideas, give feedback, or contribute wishes and suggestions for improvement. We start with a question and answer session, where you can casually address all aspects of HPC around our systems – on hardware, system usage, up to application software. We then continue with a presentation or demo about a relevant topic, which will be announced in time before the event.

Time: Tuesday, April 12th, 2022 at 4 p.m.
Focus topic: Handling cluster jobs with SLURM effectively
Duration: approx. 1-2 hours

New course: Fundamentals of accelerated computing with CUDA C/C++ (online)

21. April 2022 9:00 – 22. April 2022 13:00

Online via Zoom

Online NVIDIA DLI training course “Fundamentals of Accelerated Computing with CUDA C/C++,” conducted by NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute (DLI) Ambassador Dr. Sebastian Kuckuk (https://hpc.fau.de/person/dr-sebastian-kuckuk/), NHR@FAU.

The course gives a first introduction to programming NVIDIA GPUs with CUDA in C or C++.

Course time and date: April 21 and 22, 2022, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Course details, audience prerequisites, and a registration link can be found at: https://indico.scc.kit.edu/event/2698/

Location: This is an online course that will be conducted via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent to registered attendees a few days before the event.

At the conclusion of the course, participants will have an understanding of the fundamental tools and techniques for GPU- accelerating C/C++ applications with CUDA and be able to:

* Write code to be executed by a GPU accelerator
* Expose and express data and instruction-level parallelism in C/C++ applications using CUDA
* Utilize CUDA-managed memory and optimize memory migration using asynchronous prefetching
* Leverage command-line and visual profilers to guide your work
* Utilize concurrent streams for instruction-level parallelism
* Write GPU-accelerated CUDA C/C++ applications, or refactor existing CPU-only applications, using a profile-driven approach
