Public seminar talk: High Performance Computing: How to profile your applications performance using LIKWID tools
Speaker: Thomas Röhl and Jan Treibig (HPC Group of RRZE)
Room: E-Studio, RRZE
Date: October 28, 2014 - 8:30 (s.t.)
Abstract:
In the field of High Performance Computing (HPC), a variety of tools is available for performance profiling. An essential source of information in any serious performance engineering effort is Hardware Performance Monitoring (HPM). HPM allows to measure hardware events indicating how your code interacts with the processor hardware. For example you can measure how much memory bandwidth your code is actually consuming. One offer in this area is the LIKWID tool suite developed at the RRZE that offers a variety of applications for many aspects of performance engineering. This talk introduces the LIKWID tool suite and shows examples how to profile an application in order to find potential bottlenecks and identify possible optimizations. Besides the introduction of the tools, the talk will cover how to specifically use LIKWID on RRZE HPC systems and introduce new features in the upcoming version 4.0.
